Temple Grandin, Ph.D. offers key advice to parents of autistic children.
The Kailasanatha Temple in Ellora, Maharashtra, stands as the world’s largest monolithic structure, carved out of a single hill of basalt rock. Sculpted over 1,200 years ago by the Rashtrakuta dynasty, this rock-cut masterpiece leaves visitors in awe of its scale and intricacy. Spanning 300 feet in length and rising 96 feet high, this ancient temple complex has astounded generations with its artistry and ambition.
Part of the UNESCO-listed Ellora Caves, Kailasa Temple is a breathtaking example of ancient Indian architectural ingenuity. It showcases elaborate sculptures of Hindu deities, including many depictions of Lord Shiva, alongside other figures from the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and Bhagavad Purana. Despite its immense size, the temple was not built with imported materials but was carved directly from the mountain, removing an estimated 150,000 to 200,000 tonnes of rock — a process still shrouded in mystery.
Throughout the video, we explore the incredible craftsmanship of the temple’s creators and the enduring legacy of this architectural wonder. Questions about how the temple was conceived, chiselled, and completed persist, with some even suggesting that this could have been the work of extraterrestrials. That's a testament to the remarkable ingenuity and skill of ancient Indian builders and sculptors who created this unparalleled monument of devotion, artistry, and technical brilliance.

Our educational system may be screening out creative people in the fields of art, music, science, and computer programming. The question I wish to ask is: What would happen to the great innovators such as Einstein or Michelangelo in today’s educational system? Educators need to understand that they have different kinds of minds. Temple Grandin is a professor of animal science and a designer of livestock handling systems. Her equipment designs and animal welfare guidelines have been used around the world. She is also autistic and her visual thinking skills helped her understand animals. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Hey guys, we are at the mysterious Bavka temple. Right outside the main chamber, you can see this weird stone statue. Today, it looks completely unrecognizable, but this is a bull called Nandhi, the mount of Lord Shiva. But there are many strange, unexplained carvings in this temple.
You can see this one, it is really bizarre, on the left, you can see an elephant, and on top of the elephant, you can see a man falling down from the elephant. But on the right, can you tell me what this is? It is a dinosaur. It is taller than the elephant, it is standing almost upright, and look at its face, it has pointed face, clearly looking like a dinosaur. In fact, this looks very similar to a T Rex or Tyrannosaurus rex. Look at its similarity to the T rex, how it stands upright, and how its head looks. Remarkable similarity, right? This could be a young T-REX because the adult should be taller than this, but see, even the Juvenile T-rex is bigger the elephant. Some experts think, the T-rex was the apex predator that preyed on other species, and what is it preying on, here? A human. Now, why do I say this is a dinosaur, right? Because it is taller than the elephant, and today, the only animal taller than the elephant, is a giraffe, and this is definitely not a giraffe, and giraffes, don’t eat humans. And if you look at its pointy head, it is not an oversized Lion or a tiger, it looks very much like a reptile.
But such a carving should not exist, because according to experts, dinosaurs and humans should not be seen together, because dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago, and humans only came on earth about 300,000 years ago. But, very often, we see these prehistoric animals carved in ancient Hindu temples. I have shown you at least a dozen different species of extinct animals in various temples, and we don’t know how the sculptors could carve such extinct animals.
The carvings at Bavka temple show many weird animals. Here, this looks like an elephant, but it does not have a trunk, and it also does not have any tusks. What is this animal? Look at its mouth, it is pointy, like a pig or a boar, but look at its legs, pigs and boars have thinner legs, this animal’s legs are quite thick, like those of an elephant. Again, there is no such animal today, but there is an extinct, prehistoric species called Barytherium. And if you look at the re-creations, it is a precise match to the carving, it looks very much like an elephant, but it does not have a long trunk, and it has thick legs. Again, this species also became extinct millions of years ago. According to mainstream historians, this temple was built about a 1000 years ago, so how could sculptors who lived just a 1000 years ago, understand the anatomy of these extinct prehistoric animals, and carve them accurately, in this temple?
However, Locals tell a completely different story about the temple. According to the priest of the temple, it was built during the time of Satya Yuga, meaning, it was built at a much, much older timeline. The original builder of the temple, put many secret codes in these carvings, and these codes can be deciphered only by high level observers. You can see the letter aum carved in some places, and you can see the letter sree carved in some other places. If you notice carefully, you can see other letters as well, and these letters differ from place to place. What is the meaning of these codes? Why were they inscribed in these stone blocks? How are these codes related to the carvings next to them? Like this, there are many unsolved puzzles waiting to be decoded in this temple.

Today, many major corporations spend just as much time telling you about the good they do in the world as they do pitching you products. Which sounds great, but … are these “ethical” companies actually making the world a better place? For all the talk of corporate responsibility, many companies’ actions don’t match their purported values.
Let’s consider some of the evidence. Maybe you’re passionate about social justice. So is the NBA. The league even allowed players to replace the names on their jerseys with activist slogans. But that concern doesn’t seem to extend to, for instance, China’s human rights issues. Maybe because the Chinese arm of the NBA was valued at $5 billion in 2019. That’s when a Houston Rockets executive simply tweeted “Fight for Freedom, Stand with Hong Kong.” The tweet was quickly deleted and led to an official apology from the NBA.
Maybe you’re passionate about empowering women. So were the folks at State Street, the financial services firm that erected the “fearless girl” statue on Wall Street. The sculpture was hailed in some quarters as a feminist triumph. One problem: The company erected the sculpture in the middle of a federal investigation for underpaying its female employees.
Maybe you’re passionate about gay rights. So is Amazon. In June of 2021, the company celebrated pride month by hoisting the pride flag above its Seattle headquarters. And in June of 2022, they celebrated by … removing LGBTQ products from their website in the United Arab Emirates — where the State Department warns that homosexuality can be punished by execution.
What about ESG investing? This type of investing — which stands for environmental, social, and corporate governance — is supposed to encourage sustainability and corporate citizenship. But research actually found that the firms in ESG funds had worse track records of complying with environmental and labor laws than those in non-ESG ones.
All of which points back to one point: It’s easy to *say* you’re in favor of some noble cause. It’s much harder to make the sacrifices necessary to actually live out your beliefs.

It’s hard to say exactly how many deep-pocket donors there are like NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, but he’s as good as they come, according to several New York nonprofits that got a slice of his million-dollar pledge.
The player-turned activist ignited a national debate about the intersection of sports and activism after he began sitting – and later kneeling – during pre-game renditions of the national anthem. Some critics said he was just out to promote himself through such high-profile actions.
But Kaepernick has put his activism into action across the country through a pledge to donate $1 million to social justice initiatives big and small. The donations came out of nowhere, nonprofit leaders said – just an email from a Kaepernick associate stating that he wishes to give without that many strings attached, part of his low-key approach to giving.
Kaepernick could not be reached for comment.
The leader of at least one recipient – Coalition for the Homeless – was skeptical at first that it was really Kaepernick until the money transfer arrived in his organization’s coffers. A rough-and-tumble childhood also meant that Kaepernick had a first-hand exposure to many of the issues facing the clients of the nonprofit, which received $25,000 from him last fall.
"He knows the struggles that a lot of the people that we help here at the coalition have been through," Coalition for the Homeless Executive Director Dave Giffen said in a telephone interview. “We often deal with issues that Colin was bringing light to in his campaign.”
Other New York groups that received money include Justice League, Communities United for Police Reform and 100 Suits for 100 Men, which helps keep people out of prison by providing free suits outside courthouses so that criminal defendants can give judges and juries a snazzy first impression.
The final $100,000 installment of the two-year effort did not earmark funds for any New York-based groups, but the “Colin Kaepernick effect” lives on long after funds arrive in a nonprofit’s bank account.
The publicity inspired more than a dozen donations in his honor the week after he donated $33,000 to the Lower East Side Girls Club last year. That money will allow more girls to take part in an initiative promoting community development and civic engagement, and continues to pay dividend past the end-of-year fundraising season, Valerie Polanco, a spokesperson for the organization, said in an email.
He’s a force multiplier when it comes to raising money, according to Polanco.
“People have been donating in his honor as recently as two weeks ago,” she said. “It's the gift that keeps on giving!”

On Episode 9 of the Visionaries Only Podcast, we sit down with Activist, Poet, Athlete, Program Director at PeacePlayers Brooklyn, Alesha Smith.
This was a very candid and honest conversation around non-profit and activism, particularly the areas we’d love to see improvement. We go into what drives people’s inaction and how Alesha inspires change from within the community, most notably, she tells the story of how she helped get a street named after a women who lost her life to gun violence. We also touch on her story of returning to full contact sports after back surgery that could’ve left her paralyzed. This is the story of a woman balancing Sports, Activism and Spirituality while keeping her authentic southern roots at the forefront.
